Deprecation notice for QRF-RT-SSh-v2021
As of 01-03-2025, the dataset QRF-RT-SSh-v2021 has been deprecated and will no longer receive updates.
This decision is due to the phase-out of the input from the numerical weather prediction model Harmonie-Arome (HA)
Cy40. A new version of the dataset, based on the updated HA version Cy43, has been released.
Improvements in version 2025 compared to version 2021:
- Change of the maximum precipitation in an area: it now becomes maximum precipitation in a 3x3 km grid cell within a rolling 9x9 km area (was a fixed 7.5x7.5 km area in v2021).
- The Minimum Divergence version of the Schaake Shuffle(1) (which will replace the standard Schaake Shuffle used in v2021) will be used for statistical ensemble member generation.
- Unlike the previous version, the new version is planned to be available throughout the entire year
- Hourly forecasts are issued 8 (was 4 in v2021) times per day (based on the HA runs of 00, 03, 06, 09, 12, 15, 18 and 21 UTC) for 60 hours (was 48 hours in v2021) into the future.
- Scheuerer, M., T. M. Hamill, B. Whitin, M. He, and A. Henkel (2017), A method for preferential selection of dates in the Schaake shuffle approach to constructing spatiotemporal forecast fields of temperature and precipitation, Water Resour. Res., 53, 3029–3046, doi:10.1002/2016WR020133.
Dataset that has been deprecated: Ensemble precipitation forecasts made with Quantile Regression Forests and deterministic Harmonie-Arome inputs
