Deprecation notice for warnings datasets

As of 05-10-2026 the datasets waarschuwingen_nederland_48h/1.0, potential_weather_warnings_upcoming_week/1 and possibly_dangerous_weather/1.0 are being deprecated. These datasets will be replaced on 2 November 2026, by the KNMI-public-weather-warnings/1.0 and KNMI-public-weather-warnings-extended/1.0 datasets. This will be done with a “big bang”, they will not run simultaneously. Until the transition takes place, the replacement datasets will contain test data. The transition date can be moved to a later date due to weather circumstances.

We are taking the next step into issuing public weather warnings on a local scale. Instead of issuing per province, KNMI will draw a flexible area to indicate where the dangerous weather is expected. In light of this change, the three current datasets will be replaced by two unified datasets. These datasets will contain both the warnings (48h ahead) and potentially dangerous weather (up to a week ahead).

The KNMI-public-weather-warnings dataset matches the content of the app and website. This dataset is provided in CAP format and in JSON format. The KNMI-public-weather-warnings-extended dataset contains additional low likelihood potentially dangerous weather. This dataset is provided in JSON format only, and intended for professional users.
